Members
Just to clarify who does what regarding Neophile:

Pete Boyd: Founder
My duties are the booking of the venue and the bands, negotiating terms with the venue and the bands.
Event management on the night including stage times and band hospitality. I ensure that people arrive on time, take full responsibility for the bands' and the venues' needs and ensure the bands' terms are meted out at the end of the evening.
I also decide the theme for the evening, in conjunction with other members, usually culminating in choice of DJ.
The band faetal that Pete writes and sings for regularly play Neophile events to provide a local band with strong support for no extra cost
All final choice of bands playing remains with myself.

Tim Clark: co-Founder
Tim is a resident DJ at Neophile events, and until recently, helped with the organisation after the booking of bands. His recent move to London however, will see him talent scouting and making guest DJ appearances. I look forward to his upcoming band recommendations.
Tim plays in 'faetal' along with Pete and Dave Challis and was instrumental in setting up Neophile with Pete.

Eleanor Scerri: Design
Elie has been a part of Neophile since her promotional design work has become ubiquitous to Neophile. Elie's eye for art work and eye catching imagery turned out to be perfectly suited to Neohpile's aim to have a strong design behind it, but without being too tied to a genre or existing style too heavily. Elie executes this with effortless aplomb.
Elie's band Trauma Pet have made appearances at the shows again providing a well supported local band at no extra cost.
Elie also DJs under the moniker 'DJ Siren'.

Other members are currently active, but pending further developments, I don't feel it necessary to mention yet

The other important factor to be noted is the local support, without which, Neophile would have remained the fevered dreams of a madman.

:::Whitby Warm-Up::: - Neophile review
Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone that turned up last night to The Railway.
The attendance could have been better and I lost a fair bit of money, but to be very honest, I was very pleasantly surprised and very much feel that the scene didn't let us down - especially as The Last Cry and Undying Legacy were playing in Bournemouth at Black Machine.
Also, I had been prepared to lose up to £150 if turnout was dire.
Fortunately, that didn't happen :)
So basically, this one was on us - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we!

Reviews )
I'll be posting details of some exciting Neophile dates coming up and will be taking a short hiaitus in the New Year, when I'll be considering if Neophile is to continue or if it is time to put it to rest.
This will depend largely on the stress to benefit ratio.
I want the local scene to be nourished, but not at too much cost to myself or Eleanor.
I also want to make sure that we continue to showcase new and exciting bands as well as trying to put on the talented established acts.
After all, how many people woul dhave found Living With Eating Disorders without taking that chance on the Neophile events in June and October?
There are other bands that you don't know about that can blow you away - we will endeavour to find and hire these bands.

***Neophile Update***
Trademark are unfortunately unable to play at The Hobbit on Saturday 6th November.
The revised line-up will be announced as soon as I have a third band.

They were at 'tbc' status and unfortunately, one member has work commitments that cannot be postponed.

Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to seeing them.

More to come in November and December. All suggestions welcome, we will be aiming to diversify and bring as wide a range of talented, passionate and innovative bands as we can in 2005. Hope you enjoy these gigs, the more people that come to support, the more we can pay the bands, the better reputation Southampton will have for live music, which in turn will bring more bands. Neophile is 100% non-profit and all money is paid to the venue and the bands.

If you copy and paste this into your LJ it will be muchly appreciated

:::DeViaTe::: review
What a day, what a night.
Finished work at 3:30pm, picked up by Dave, went to his to grab bass stuff and then to mine to grab the rest and change, managed to arrive at The Railway at almost dead on 5pm - nice.
Soundcheck was timely and doors did indeed swing open on time.

Devilish Presley )

Earth Loop Recall )

Deathboy )

The turnout for the evening was very satisfying and I was able to pay all three bands which made me rather happy, and no doubt the bands too. There were a very pleasing number of people down from London too which was a pleasant surprise. Thanks to you all, I would do a roll call, but there are actually so many of you that I'd fear leaving anyone out, but just know that I appreciate the support, and the bands do even more.

Thanks to Tim and to Elie for some damn fine DJing and keeping the atmosphere topped up between sets. The fact that you were DJing with a make-shift rig didn't make things easy, and you coped well.

The future... )
